HISTORY;;
Lord Illidan was the eldest child born to Lady Vashj, matriach of House Atsir. He was a difficult boy who grew up to be a difficult man. He did not follow orders. He did not treat women with response or deferance. He treated his mother and sisters poorly and would never apologize. Not only that, he humiliated the family with reprehensible behaviour in the city. Drinking and gambling and carrying on, and the guard never knew what exactly to do with their own leige lady's son.
Illidan met a woman named Daesha, who was the perfect inappropriate woman for his inappropriate man. She was married to a man who controlled her business and her life because she was too weak to do it for herself. A beautiful, foolish woman. Despite her marriage, she couldn't resist the handsome son of House Atsir, and she became his lover, which ended only when she became pregnant with his child.
Melyndra was that child. The daughter of an unspeakable union between two people who could not take their places in the world. It was made clear to her from a very young age that she should not exist. That her birth was a sting upon Atsiria. Her father and mother could not raise her, her mother because she had her own, true family, her father because he didn't have the maturity to deal with an illegitimate daughter. Melyndra was raised by a nanny who was assigned and paid by her grandmother, the Lady Vashj, and never truly understand any of her life.
When the girl grew too old to be hidden and too inquisitive to ignore, Vashj had her adopted into a nomad family. She was taken out into the desert to live among them. She came to love her tribe and the desert, but was never truly happy. While her surrogate family did their best, she was too old to really become one of theirs. They were always kind and truly did what they could, but she could sense that they considered her a responsibility, and it filled her with pain and guilt. She become introverted and insecure and unhappy during those years.
She was in Cleraine with my tribe when she was in her early twenties, and she wandered into a library, with the intent to teach herself to read or find a tutor, but instead, she found a handsome scholar of Dentorian descent who called himself Lawrence. He approached her while she tried to find worth for herself in the books, and for the week that her tribe was in Cleraine, he interacted with her. Melyndra was swept off her feet by the respect and honesty he treated her with. When he asked her to stay with him become his assistant, she agreed and departed from her tribe.
For years, they travelled between cities, with Melyndra acting as Lawrence's guide, keeping his notes, cooking his meals. He told her of the theories he had about an ancient religion lost to time in Atsiria, the faith of the Goddesses, and together, they tracked down folk tales and histories to base the theory in reality. They became good friends, and in, time, lovers. Lawrence helped Melyndra find worth in herself, and to bring out the confidence she had within. She was truly happy with him.
One day, Lawrence vanished, leaving only a note. It said that he was going to search for the Goddesses himself and that he had no further need for her. There was no other explanation.
Melyndra began to search for him, first in Atsiria, and then, when she had no luck there, she travelled to Dentoria. She discovered that Lawrence was actually the heir to a House Franel, and she went there looking for him. She got a job as a maid, trying to get close enough to speak with him, but when she did, she realized, to her confusion and dismay, that this Lawrence was a completely different person. He didn't recognize her and treated her like a hireling, even when he took her to bed. The morning after that, she fled Franel without a word to anyone, sure that she would never find any worth for her life again.
But as time went on, she realized that she was selling herself short. If she had been a true person with her Lawrence, than certainly she could be one without him. She would make him regret that he had ever left her behind, and, at the same time, she would create the Atsiria that they had spoken of and dreamed about. After years of her own research, she believed that she had found the location of the "Sanctum," a tomb, of sorts, that Lawrence had theorized the existance of.
However, when she travelled there, she was confronted by a terrible truth: the Goddesses that she'd spent half her life chasing were nothing but distortions of Kilian legends, mere women, not Goddesses at all. She'd spent weeks in the desert, having run low on food and water, and in her despair, she fell into a deep sleep in the Sanctum.
When she slept, she had a vivid dream, where the Goddesses, different from the women who were carved onto the Wall of the Sanctum, came to her and explained themselves, their identidies, their histories. They told her what they wanted from followers and explained to her that she was the only one who could turn the stray people of the desert back to them. They told her how to do it.
Melyndra was a different person who she awakened, filled with more direction and passion than she ever had felt before. She believed in what she was doing twice as much as she had before. She had been granted the resources and power to see her dream come to fruition. And she would do it.
Among the abilities Melyndra had been granted were those of a medium, enabling her to see past, present, and future in fire, and to sense relevant disturbances in the fabric of reality. All of this allowed her to see that Lawrence would once again enter her life, though he would be different, this time, and that Lawrence was a key part to her attempt to prove the Goddesses to the people of Atsiria. Using the knowledge her new powers continued to provide her, Melyndra rescued Lawrence from a death sentance in Razen and exploited this life debt, leading him about by the nose across Atsiria. While her primary goal was to do as the Goddesses commanded, Melyndra had another purpose in her manipulations of Lawrence: to somehow bring the part of him that had loved her so deeply back to the surface. She also brought into her service a young girl named Karlesta, who had smaller traces of the same powers she herself had, contacted from a shard of the Wall.
It was in large part Karlesta who finally found a foothold in Melyndra's heart again and softened her ambitions. The girl had begun as a tool, but Melyndra began to think of her as a daughter and a friend. While she was done terrible things in the name of the Goddesses -- not the least of which was aiding the murder of her Aunt Laeleena and watching all her cousins die -- Melyndra has found a heart for herself once again at the core of it all. Her plans didn't work exactly as she'd hoped for Lawrence, but she's begun to bury her feelings for him and has great hopes for the future of Atsiria -- a future she intends to ride at the front of.
PERSONALITY ;;
Strangers would describe Melyndra as charismatic, confident, engimatic, and awe-inspiring. She seems to exude knowledge and prepossession. Even those who aren't interested in what she has to say are compelled by her. These people often find her in their minds long after she's left, and have a difficult time thinking of her as a person at all.
To those who become close enough to see Melyndra beyond the persona and aplomb of the Prophet, they begin to see that she is also smug, irritable, and arrogant, and that the traits of her that make her the Prophet are a well and carefully tended image. They see that she enjoys being in control, that she plays her cards close to her chest, and that she'll turn near-feral the moment that control is wrested from her.
The very few who draw close enough to Melyndra for her to let down her guard see that she is insecure and regretful, and that her heart is actually very soft, if very bitter. She truly believes in all the things that she preaches -- there's little power-hunger or greed in her motivations. She wants to see a change for Atsiria, and if her methods are morally grey at best, it's just a part of the process.
APPEARANCE ;;
Melyndra is extraordinarily beautiful. She has long, copper curls and electric green eyes. She often braids small bells into her hair, and idiosyncracy of her tribe that she believes now adds an exoticness to her Prophet persona. She dresses, almost always, in a plain white dress belted with a silver chain at the waist. Her voice has a commanding tone to it that makes it one of her most striking features -- something to be said, indeed, considering her overall appearance.
